This blog was an experiment, a way to keep people who pre-ordered posted on Tell a Demon and what was going on. However, I've found other platforms to be more useful for this.

  • All large event illustrations are complete.
  • Just finished scripting in all of Julius' Act 3 scenes.
Onto Kalevel's, then Tell's, then it's onto the endings. After that I have to add the mind/timed choices, but that usually takes less time than the final pass of scripting.

Then it's onto testing! Finally winding down with this project. :)

Short Story and Updates

 You can now read a new short story set in the same world as Tell a Demon. This one features Tetrine, and continues from Asher. I thought it would be nice to release something short and free.

The Ghosts of Reish House:
Tetrine is trying to mend her relationship with the mysterious Markaius when a letter arrives, informing her that the spirits that haunt her family home are causing trouble - and only she can put them to rest.  When she arrives, it's clear that the ghosts want something from her- but what? And when the dead raise the stakes, can she set things right before it's too late?

Anyway, back to Tell a Demon. My last to-do list is, like... six pages? I'm still working on preliminary sketches and drawings. I think I'll wait to post here again until those are done, because by then I'll be able to post small visual snippets with updates.

There's a small thing I plan to release soon. More on that later this week.

For Tell a Demon, I'm currently onto the Act III and IV images. It's strange to have The Last Big To-Do list in hand, but good in the sense that this project is wrapping up. No percentages yet--right now I'm doing a ton of preliminary sketches and coding in rough placeholders to make sure the images I have planned will work in the final.

Been a while. Sorry about that--past couple of weeks have been a bit crazy. But, still have got quite a bit done:
  • GUI revamp is complete
  • It's now possible to play Tell a Demon in its entirety, to each of the sixteen endings
  • Now doing a final pass on the script to make sure it plays well from beginning to end for both of the major plots, before coding in art assets.
(Also, the number of endings is unlikely to change, but it's still possible I might have to cut or add one.)

Working on re-vamping the GUI. It's not much different from the last one--I'm tweaking the color scheme a bit and generally making the text larger so it's easier to port to Android if I decide to do so--but that's about it.

Switched over from using hand-drawn fonts to a decorative font. I didn't mind my hand-drawn lettering, but it was too difficult to read. You will still be able to turn off decorative fonts in the settings menu, of course.

Script is Finished

The script for Act III and IV is done. Some of the re-writes were pretty extensive--had to scrap at least half of the scenes and probably wrote 20-30,000 words from scratch. But overall the story is much stronger for it. It still needs to be tested--have to make sure all the choices lead to the proper endings and so on--but the biggest part of this task is complete.

Now that that's done I'm going to work on fixing up the GUI again. I'm not going to scrap everything I have or start over, but right now the history screen is still broken and there are a few readability issues. After that's done I'll have had a bit of a break from the script and can come back to it with a fresh look, and can then work on testing the story and making further edits.
